A Guide to Installing Roofing Shingles in Cold Weather

Although the installation of roofing shingles is usually not advised to be done in the winter, there is something that you can do if you need to replace or install a new roof during cold days. The primary reason why some packages of roofing shingles come with a reminder that they should not be installed in the winter is because the sticky tabs are only activated in warm weather. To work around this issue, all you need to do would be to use roofing cement. Here is a guide on how you can properly install roofing shingles in cold weather through the use of roofing cement.

First, apply some roofing cement coming from the caulk tube to the shingle tab's underside.

You should then place the shingle in its proper position on the roof. You can use chalk line for accurately straight lines to help you in your placement. Once you have the shingle in position, press it down so it would adhere to your roof.

After pressing it, nail it down using the correct number of nails and the correct placement that is specified on the package. Most shingles have nailing lines that serve as a guide, while some specify the right number of nails to use. This step is especially important in the water as the nails would keep the shingles in position until the roofing cement dries completely.

Do these steps with the rest of the roofing shingles that you need to install. Make sure that you would be laying down the bottom row first, going up vertically. Be sure to leave the shingles a bit overhanging on the side of your roof. Also make it a point that the roofing shingles are offset so that there would not be any leaks caused by valleys that are lined up.

These steps should allow you to install your roofing shingles during any weather. You should be able to do them as long as you some knowledge in roofing or if you have worked on a successful roofing project in the past. if you are not confident that you would be able to do it properly or if you want to know more about installing architectural roofing shingles and standing seam metal roof installation, do not hesitate to contact a roofing professional to help you out.
